the money pit

Well, The cold, rainy weather that caused the flood is gone. Trailing behind it is none other than the broiling, heavy, humid heat Michigan sees typically during the month of August. Be careful what you wish for, right?

Our new residence in Berkley seems to be resembling that movie, The Money Pit with Tom Hanks, as the weeks fly by. First, the flooding in the basement. Then the corroded pipe under the basement floor that cost us a good $1200 to fix.

Then, the weather gets nice enough for us to start setting up the pool. What a mistake there. I kind of wish we would have gotten someone to tear the damn thing down when we first moved in. But we didn't. So, we spent a good three hours flooding our backyard thinking that we were actually filling up the rest of the pool. Tom and I learned the hard way that apparently the filter and all its connector hoses need to be hooked up before you fill the pool back up. *duh* Unfortunately, we learned this thanks to our observant guests we had over for a Memorial Day BBQ at our new house. Jenny and Scott were the ones to point out the water pouring out of the side of the pool.

In the middle of trying to set up the pool and get the grill and food ready for the bbq and get in touch with everyone from work to see if they were coming, I had to wrestle with the AC unit. Of course, as our luck would have it, the AC unit isn't working. We've tried tripping and resetting fuses, all that good stuff. I made phone calls to my mom, my aunt and uncle, and even Jenny and Scott tried taking a look at it. It just so happens a Heating and Cooling guy is on his way over here to take a look at the damn thing. argh... I wonder how much this guy is going to set us back.

So, its nothing but fun here in our new house. We did, however, have a semi-successful first bbq at our house. Most of the people we invited didn't bother to show up, even though they said they would, but we had great company none the less. Tom has five cases of beer to himself, and we will be eating hot dogs and hamburgers for the next couple of weeks. Yeah, we went overboard. Just a bit.

Anyone, feel free to stop by if you're in the mood for hotdogs, hamburgers, beer and margaritas. We have plenty to go around.
